From Suicidal Despair to Thriving Leader: How Parker Reclaimed His Voice After Years of Bullying

When Parker’s mom, Kacie, posted her son's story in a Facebook group, it wasn’t just a cry for help—it was the family’s last thread of hope.

Parker had been bullied since Kindergarten. As the only child in his school of a mixed racial background, he became the target of constant harassment. At recess, in the classroom, and even online. By the time he was 12, the years of targeting had taken their toll. Parker was struggling with suicidal ideation. He had withdrawn completely. The school somehow turned the blame on him for being bullied, and no matter how hard his family advocated—even going to the police—no one stepped in to help.

Until that night when his mom and grandmother asked him if he would be brave enough to share his story publicly, that’s how I found him.

When the System Fails, We Must Step In

Parker’s story is not unique, but that doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking. The truth is, many kids who are bullied, especially those who are just ‘’different’’, are often left unsupported by the very systems meant to protect them.

For Parker, things had gotten so bad that even his family, supportive and loving, had begun to lose hope that anyone could help.

But I could see right away that all wasn't lost for Parker, he was breaking under the weight of isolation, and self-blame. What he needed wasn’t fixing. He needed to be seen, heard, and reminded of his worth.

A Coaching Relationship Built on Trust, Safety & Identity

When Parker and I began our six-month online coaching journey, our first priority was emotional safety. In our weekly sessions, we:

  • Created a space where Parker didn’t have to explain or defend his experience

  • Practiced mindfulness, role playing, and emotional tracking tools

  • Unpacked years of trauma from being racially targeted and bullied

  • Rebuilt his sense of self, separate from what others projected onto him

  • Practiced communication strategies to handle conflict and set boundaries

  • Identified his values and leadership qualities

Together, we created a roadmap for healing, not just surviving, but truly thriving.

Watching the Transformation Happen

Around the halfway point in our journey, I started seeing a shift in Parker. He began smiling more during sessions. He started using his voice more assertively, not from a place of defense, but from self-knowing. He even wrote a spoken word poem about his experience that brought tears to both our eyes.

By the end of our time together, Parker had:

✨ Reclaimed his confidence
✨ Built new friendships
✨ Stood up to peers with calm, grounded self-respect
✨ Joined a leadership group focused on diversity and inclusion
✨ Found peace within himself

Parker Today: A Thriving Young Man

Today, Parker is in high school and absolutely thriving. He’s involved in leadership, helping create the very change he never got to experience in elementary school. He’s no longer questioning his worth; he’s standing tall in it. Watch the full video testimonial below.

As for his mom, Kacie? Here’s what she told me:

“We were out of options. We had tried everything. When you came into our lives, it was like someone finally saw my son. You believed in him before he could believe in himself. That changed everything.”

And from Parker:

“I didn’t think anyone could help me. I thought I was the problem. Now I know I’m not. I actually like who I am now.”

Why This Matters

Parker’s story is proof that even in the darkest moments, transformation is possible—with the right support, trauma-informed care, and someone who genuinely sees the light inside a child.

It also reminds us that bullying isn’t “just a phase” or something kids “grow out of.” The emotional wounds run deep, but they can be healed.
